How to Use a Laptop Effectively As a Student Out of class

1. Search the Internet to find out more about everything you study:

One of the great benefits of using a laptop for research is to have access to the Internet to learn more about a topic. However, be sure to use only reliable sources of information.

• For example, you can use academic search engines such as Google Scholar, Lexus Nexus, or JSTOR. They have already verified their sources to prove their loyalty and faithfulness.
• You can usually rely on .gov websites because they are run by government agencies. Most Edu resources are trustworthy because these resources are hosted on school websites. However, be careful about these resources, as students may sometimes find posts on these sites.
•  Well-known sources such as the Mayo Clinic or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). However, avoid explicit sources of bias, such as PETA, as their information may be distorted in line with the agenda.

 2. Type your notes again and save them in organized files:

Whether you are writing your notes in class or handwriting them, you are more likely to write them quickly, making them look cluttered or incomplete. Take time to write your notes after school in a text editor. Use complete sentences and correct grammar, then check these notes as you prepare for questions and tests.

• Keep your notes in separate folders for each chapter. For example, you may have an English language folder, a history archive and a biology archive. You can even have subfolders for different chapters if you want.
• If there is something completely unclear in your notebook, you know that you should focus on that area during your study. 

3. Write your documents for easy reading:

Nowadays, most educators want you to write down any important research papers before you take them. It is important to write articles because they are easy to read even if you do not ask. In fact, writing your articles can be a little quicker, so you have more time for the things you love!

• Writing articles is helpful for editing because it makes it easier to make changes without having to restart.

4. Download any study guide recommended by your teacher:

Your teacher can use software to look at or listen to past lessons, learn more about a topic, ask questions, practice tests, and so on. Use them if you can!

 • You can also download your own apps to learn more about the topic. For example, if you are learning Spanish, you can use programs like Rosetta Stone to learn the language.

5. If you need help, contact your teachers, teachers or classmates:

If there is something in your textbook or notes that you do not understand, or there is a topic for which you need more information, try emailing your teacher or professor. You can ask them if they have any other means of communication, such as a school-wide messaging app.

 • You can use apps like Google Hangouts or Skype to create study groups with your classmates.
