How to Use a Laptop Effectively As a Student In Class

A laptop can be a good study partner. The ability to write notes and documents makes writing and editing easier and helps you stay organized. Internet access also allows you to connect to a world of information that can be used to understand any topic. But using a laptop makes you more vulnerable to disturbances in the classroom and at home.

1. Follow the instructions provided by your teacher or school:

Your teacher should clearly explain the laptop policy at the beginning of the course. Make sure you pay close attention to these rules and follow them carefully.

  • For example, you may not be allowed to open your laptop while giving lectures, or you may only be allowed to visit certain programs or websites. You may also be allowed to bring your own laptop within a few day
  • In some cases, these rules may not be issued by the individual teacher but by the school

2. Write your notes in your own style:

When listening to a talk in class, try not to write down what your teacher or professor says. Instead, listen carefully to what they have to say and write down the key words and concepts in your notes. Do not worry about writing a full sentence, and write down extra readings or extra notes that your teacher mentions during their talk.

  • Include questions you may have. Then you can try to find the answers to these questions in your notebook or textbook.

3. Close or uninstall distractions:

Your laptop may be a powerful learning tool, but it has plenty of room for attention in the classroom. Turn off all messaging apps, games, social media notifications, etc. before class starts.

  •  It may take a second to close the notification, but it may miss the point that your teacher is saying.
  • You can use Airplane mode to completely turn off the Internet while in class.

4. Use productivity software to maintain discipline in class:

If you are having trouble restricting access or do not know how to turn off notifications without uninstalling the app, look for an extension or app that can be configured to block certain sites or apps. There are several types of productivity software that you can customize to suit your needs.

 • For example, you can install an extension on your web browser that prevents you from visiting certain sites at school or during study hours or that limit the amount of time you spend on the site during the day.

5. Be considerate of your classmates:

Your laptop not only distracts you in class but also distracts people around you. Do not listen to music, watch videos, play games, or watch distracting or obscene images during class.

• If students do not normally use laptops in class, consider sitting at the end of class. This way, anyone who is distracted can sit in front of you without seeing the screen.

6. If you do not want your laptop for class, consider leaving it at home:

If you have tried a few ways to increase productivity but have parted ways with your laptop in class or found out that they are not fast and efficient, you just need to leave it at home. . This way, you will not be tempted to use your Instagram to test your class during class.

• It also helps protect your laptop in your bag or during class.
