I bought this product on the site a few nights ago. I wanted an external hard drive that derives its power from it's USB cable connection. I specifically did NOT want a drive that has a separate AC power cable. I had a huge variety of choices on the site and I picked this Western Digital model largely because as I read down the technical specs on a website I read this: "Simply plug it in to a USB port and start saving your photos, music, video, and files". The NEXT line mentions an AC power cable but I didn't get that far as it sounded to me like there was only one connection (the USB cable) that needed to be made for this device to work.

NOT ONLY DID I NOT RECIEVE A REPLACMENT THAT I WOULD HAVE MUCH RATHER HAD A REFUND FOR AS THEY HAVE IT DOWN IN MY ACCT. I DID BUT COME TO THINK OF IT, AS I WAS USING THE FIRST ONE THAT ATE MY 11 YEAR DATA COLLECTION IN 1 DAY AND THEN SAID DRIVE HAS TO BE FORMATTED BEFORE YOU CAN USE IT, BUT TWO (NOT ONE BUT TWO OF MY LAPTOPS SUFFERED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH "NO SOUND DEVICES DETECTED ON YOUR MACHINE" One is in being repaired by BEST BUY AND SONY UNDER WARRANTY, THE VAIO AND LOOKS LIKE I'M JUST S.O.L WITH MY FAITHFUL HP. THIS SHOULD NOT BE ON THE MARKET BUT IN SOMEONE'S HALL OF SHAME! I WILL NOT BE CHARGED FOR IT OR WOULD I IF I HAD 20 IN MY CLOSET! I'LL SEE TO THAT!

I never purchased the external HD fro WD because it doesn't boot up from Tiger, as it doesn't have Firewire support.
Luckily I found this out before re-purchasing the above-mentioned drive. It was doubly confusing for myself, as the Western Digital products are by and large compatible with Mac. Anyway Author: Admin
